Pictures from the day of perform our final out comes. At that day, we are really exciting to see our guest playing with our models. And when we explain what we done and what is it, I feel like a parent proud of my own child. So many effort and time we spend on this project and finally we have done it!
I think I got a really good team, they all have their life and own stuff to do, but we manage our time quite good. And we solve our problems together use their technics and own knowledge. Such as making skill, information about where to buy specific materials.
With the final out comes, we are holding different ideas in our group. I prefer the original looking about my model, and some of them think that’s just too complicated and we should save our time. So we discuss our problem with the guy from workshop, and he said welding should be a better choice, we could solve all the problems either save labour, also save time.
And the technic that I learned from welding should be the most exciting thing in this project ! And what I found about group work is how we handle different situation. Things such as idea build up, we always have rough ideas, and when we decide to work on one idea, we put our time in it. So no matter what great idea comes after, we should always reject that and focus on what we got.
This is the model that I made before the presentation with Fabiane and the guy from lido.
This is the prototype of our zoetrope, they like how it works. So I start to working on the mechanism.
That’s the drawing before that model, which I thought would be work. And they told me that we don’t have any attachment in lido pool, so I come up with the idea of the second model.
Then we come up with a new idea witch could save labour and time, it’s trestle. So we basically buy the trestle from B&Q then working out how this thing gonna work with the little box that been showed in the second model. Although we did not have a lot of time to made 3 as what we prefer. So just two, and every thing just go more and mire simple.
In the beginning of the project, I’m quite scared honestly. Because I’m not used to communicate with others like chatting. So I just wonder how I’m gonna speak out my ideas, in front of others which are not familiar (other Chinese student) to me.
First meeting:(group brief: every body should prepare at least 3 ideas about Lido project discuss that day and make a rough plan)
I think I’m not confident at speaking out my ideas, but I did say what I was thinking about their ideas. Because of my speaking, I need to explain twice in most of the time. But I mentioned that we should have an activity like treasure hunt. And they like my ideas. So at that day we have three ideas which is treasure hunt, telescope,leaving legacy, and something with bicycle.I was doing telescope with Rose. And I draw a picture about how it looks and how it gonna work.
Second day( still rough ideas but there is a presentation, and they changed most part of ideas about what we worked last day.)
Quite nervous, the guy from lido is there, fabiane is there, in the wilson road main lecture. And we arrived at 9:30, and it supposed start at 10:00, but fab is a little bit late that day, so I could prepare well and catch up what they changed. So basically they just removed the idea of treasure hunt, and focused on bicycle. And I don’t like it at all, with all the question, we start our presentation and Fab asked all the question that I want to ask, so no more bicycle, just telescope. And I start to think next time I find some thing wrong I should be brave and speak out.

Several days later

In the morning we start to discuss about how the telescope looks like and what kind of material should be use. I’m really not sure is that necessary to discuss that first. And I start to organise my speech, at that time Neo shows up and told us about an idea of moving animation called zoetrope. Then this idea get all pass. Then they give me a job of drawing, model making. Then we make our time table together, intend to use some day during eastern vacation. And I think we are ready to go~
The first tracing paper drawing I drew before I made the first prototype. During drawing this picture, I could see specific problems that not considered in my mind before. It’s like a “warm up” process, so I prefer this drawing happens in all my 3d works. The second one is a explosion drawing of my clock, I really enjoy to draw that, and a successful feeling after I finish it.
Final out comes. I bought these black gears in mapplin, and I made two gears by hands. But the second face still got problems, I think it because of the mechanism is not strong enough to generate the clock.
The prototype with the second face. I think it’s ready for making the final out comes based on this model. Everything is working, just a little problem with the accurate of time measurement. Not a big deal.
First prototype, I quite like walnut board work as a form as a clock. The time measured quite accurate. And because of the size of the numbers, it’s too small for a house holding clock, so I would like to large the scale. Also the movement of minutes and hours faces could not be obviously see, so I want to make a test on second face. To see how it looks.
The gear of the clock always be the most important part for the whole clock. I tried to make one of the gears by using walnut 2mm board. I drill the hole one by one around a circle, and cut the toothed circle out. Works pretty good.
